Isabel Marant

Well, what a fortnight it's been!  I had such a busy time in Los Angeles.  My cousin got married and as an Indian Hindu, getting married to a Polish Catholic, there were loads of dinners, ceremonies and traditions to uphold so there really wasn't time to sleep, let alone do anything touristy!  I shopped a bit, but was slightly disappointed with what I saw, although to be fair I didn't dedicate enough time for it.  I took a picture of Michael Jackson's star, saw the Hollywood sign from miles away and got rained on a lot (shite weather in Los Angeles the past week), but all in all, I had a fab time catching up with my family, which was ideal.

In celebration of Los Angeles, and in mourning of the beautiful sunshine that I left behind yesterday, are the lookbook images from Isabel Marant SS11.  Yes, I'm jumping the gun a bit, but if there are any readers out there not under the threat of cold, wet and windy weather - this is for you.

Anyway, how were your weeks?

Keep Calm

Normally I wouldn't post about this things, but I found this hilarious and couldn't wait to share.  I'm sure you've all seen the Keep Calm and Carry On posters, mugs, postcards and so on, a reinvention of the classic British WW2 posters that were supposed to instil confidence and hope during those terrible times.  I do find it ironic that the phrase, although marketed with products a few years ago, has suddenly latched onto mainstream popculture with a host of new products being released in an economically unstable world.

In a fantastic twist, I came across something as I was casually shopping over the weekend.  A man wearing a t-shirt, bearing a fantastic response.

Honestly, this did make me chuckle quite a bit, and by myself which is quite the sad thing.  I hope it makes you laugh too.

On a side note, to all those British readers out there who keep an eye on the news, I imagine this is what a generation of young students-to-be will be doing when the report of tuition fees is released in the morning.  Now panic and freak out, indeed.

The Week Ahead

Prepare for a bumper issue of this week's bout of inspirational pictures, I'm leaving for Los Angeles on Thursday morning but do hope to get in another post before then.

Leather It

I'm really into leather right now.  And no, it's not the dominatrix facet of my personality coming into the forefront, thank you very much.  I love it at the moment because of it's effortlessness, teaming it with egg white shirts, faux fur, blue jeans or a cable knit jumper and it's less Angelina in Mr and Mrs Smith and casual, a look for everyday.

I've always been one to be attached to her leather jacket, I have three and my newest acquisition, a slouchly one is being held hostage by a friend after I left it there after her birthday party.  But recently, I've been partial to the leather dress, leather skirts of all colours and leather trousers.  One of the best trends of this year is making leather less of punk wear and more mainstream.  I adore this editorial - the mix of black leather, white separates, faux fur and gold accessories is a winner.  Perfect for winter.

On a totally unrelated note, thanks for the suggestions about Los Angeles, I will be sure to take you up on those.  If anyone else wants to chip in and point me to something I should see, visit, or shop in, drop me a comment.

Kimono

I haven't done this yet, but I've put together a potential outfit.  I've fallen in love with the gorgeous kimono from Topshop and really wish my budget could stretch that bit further to add this to my wardrobe.  This look has also been partially inspired by the stylish and beautiful Taylor Tomasi, as I absolutely adore her gym shorts.

(streetfsn)

I have a little request to ask my American readers - I'm heading to Los Angeles next week for a fortnight.  Admittedly it is for a wedding so the majority of my time shall be spent trying to remember all the names of an extensive Asian family, but I am hoping to get some sightseeing and shopping done.  So, what do you recommend?  Any great (cheap) shops I should visit, vintage or not?

Thanks for your help!

Anna Selezneva

If you've read my blog long enough you'll know by now that one of my favourite models of all time is Anna.  Everything she does inspires me, from editorials to runway.  I particularly love her on the runway as its immediately apparent how beautiful she is.  Some castings will just go for the tall and skinny girl with the face of a horse but Anna is genuinely stunning and fully deserves her top model status.

What do you think of my choices?  Who's your favourite model of the season?

I seem to have collected a huge amount of streetstyle pictures over the last month.  Here are some of my favourites.  I quite love the tapered leg trend, it's incredibly wearable for the autumn/winter season and looks great with dainty heels.
